We have been part of the Discovery Family for seven years. Our two children have enjoyed a familiar environment with classroom no bigger than 12 students and as small as seven. One of the things we enjoy the most is the international environment. Our children have classmates from Japan, Taiwan, Germany, United Kingdom, Costa Rica, Canada, and Venezuela.  These friends are with them 2-4 years and move, but they stay in touch, making real the saying: "Make new friends, keep the old; one is silver, the other gold."  It is a true global opportunity for friendship.

Our children speak excellent English with great accent, and despite its being considered a small school, Discovery provides many opportunities for after-school activities, sports, arts and music. The school choir is nationally recognized and locally preferred for many TV and radio shows; they have recorded their first CD; math, spelling, Spanish, science fairs and sports are at the competitive level of any bilingual school in Honduras. Academically the school is great. It's SACS certified and the students have a MAP testing twice a year to compare with children from US schools.

Having our children at Discovery School has been a blessing. I will recommend it to anyone that is looking for a good school for a reasonable price, and better yet to give your children the opportunity of a great education. If I had a third child I would not doubt for a second choosing Discovery again.

Discovery's familiar and happy environment makes my 4-year-old kid ask me why we're not in school on weekends. From the welcoming interview with the Head of School, to the encouraging teachers and involving parents; Discovery is not only a part of my child's life, but a great experience for me too. If the child is happy, the mom is happy. The best decision I have made since I moved to Honduras!

After moving from Canada to Honduras, joining the Discovery School grounded our family in more ways than anticipated. The nurturing, friendly environment put us at ease as we dropped off our children each day, the high quality of the education was consistent and was further validated after we returned home after three years, and the families at school became our social network. More than an educational institution, the Discovery School was a community where our children could share their lives with a diverse group of students and teachers.

When I learned that we were moving to Tegucigalpa, I immediately started looking at schools, and for me, the Discovery School stood apart from the rest because of the small class sizes, hands-on philosophy, highly qualified and committed teaching staff, and a true international student body (close to 50% of the school).  The welcoming environment of the school made the move to Honduras much easier for our family.  It has been almost six years since my children started at Discovery School, and I can say with no hesitation that it was the best decision we made for our children's future.  They are learning at a level comparable to the best international schools, and they are happy kids!

When we moved to Tegucigalpa four years ago our colleagues recommended the Discovery School to us and so we applied for admission and got a place for our kids. We never regretted this decision. After the first day of school our kids came home and told us how nice they were welcomed from the whole class. They did not speak English or Spanish at that time, but got integrated by everyone from the first day - with the students and the teachers. We really appreciate the small class sizes, the interactive teaching philosophy, the high academic standards and the teaching of social responsibility. We would choose Discovery School again.

Discovery School lives up to its mission; I see first hand how my kids have grown not only academically but also as caring, socially responsible young adults.  Most importantly to me, they are becoming critical thinkers who are open to new ideas and eager to understand global issues and different cultures.  This is preparing them for today's world.

Our son been has been enrolled in three different schools since he started Kinder in Tegucigalpa. Although each school had its strengths, it in Discovery School that we found all these qualities integrated in one teaching environment. The high academic success is clearly reflected in both the outstanding USA standardized testing scores and the successful graduation of Discovery students to institutions higher learning in the USA and other countries. Even the fact that the students at Discovery interact with each other in English even on the playground also sets it apart from others. As a parent and psychologist I see that the school with its creative and experiential approach helps foster good study skills and a deep curiosity and love of learning that so essential to a lifetime of learning.
- Parent, 2 Years at Discovery

At Discovery School, my children have a lovely safe space to play, grow, and learn with students and teachers from a variety of cultures. I have been incredibly impressed with the caliber of teacher; always addressing the individual needs of my children and any concerns that I had about their learning or behavior.
- Parent, 3 Years at Discovery

I was at the Discovery School for seven years. I spent an important part of my childhood learning from teachers in a one-on-one manner that I have yet to find elsewhere.  I had many great experiences at Discovery ranging from competing in a triathlon to translating for a delegation of doctors. There was no lack of opportunities and I'd like to think that I explored all the ones relevant to my own interests. I am now attending university in the US and pursuing a degree in Environmental Science. I can say that my interest in Science was sparked by the teachers and science fairs…we had at Discovery.

Hello Ms. Giles! How are you? I hope everything is going great! I was just writing to let you know that things are going amazingly well for me here at SMU. I love my new professors, classmates, and this new lifestyle! I also wanted to let you know that I truly feel that Discovery School prepared me 100% for college…I feel like I really was well prepared for this. So I wanted to thank you.

I got Spanish credits for 4 semesters because of my grade in the AP exam. I also talked to Mr. Fenn about my English class. I'm taking English 1301, not English as a Second Language, and I love the challenge! I remember I used to work so hard to get an A on a paper for Mr. Fenn and that paid off because I got an A+ in my first essay here and the teacher said my writing skills were "outstanding". Most of the things we are covering in class were subjects that Mr. Fenn had already taught us, so that makes it a lot easier. I also feel very confident of my Statistics skills. In my Statistics class, we are covering much of what Ms. Regina had taught us already.

I am so happy here and again I wanted to thank you so much for preparing me for this challenge as best as possible. Say hi to everyone at DS for me please! I miss you and you will always be in my heart.

When we arrived at Tegucigalpa, we immediately started looking for good schools. About one year later, we found Discovery.  It was a small school which believed in small classes. It was totally unique and it stood out. I simply loved it to the point that I still remember some of my classes there. Discovery has the hands-on philosophy, which is truly the best teaching technique I have seen.  It also has an international student body.. I remember my best friends were from Holland, US, and Sweden...where else can you find something like that?! It truly opens childrens' minds.
I have to thank Discovery mostly for my passion for reading and my creativity. I remember our reading corner time and since then, I must admit I have a serious reading addiction.  Thanks to the little seed they put in my mind and a lot of years of practice, I am able to impress my boss and my colleagues because the Discovery School was always trying to find new ways of boosting our creativity and challenging us.

In Discovery School, I have so many options to choose from. I have really been able to discover sand develop my interests because there's a little bit of everything: from the amazing art department to the sport facilities. There is always something to do!

I remember things I learned 3 years ago.  In my old school I crammed for tests and soon forgot everything.  But at Discovery we learn by practice and doing and it sticks.
- G, Student, Honduras

I like it that I can get the personal attention that I need and that the teachers are really interested in helping us.  We receive a reasonable amount of homework and tests that really make sure that we know the context of the subject we're studying.

TEACHERS

I chose Discovery School as my international teaching post due to their philosophy and student-centered mission statement. When I began my 4th grade teaching assignment, my expectations were exceeded due to the unique community of learners and teachers Discovery provides, their tireless effort of reaching every child on a personal level and their hands-on approach to both creating and delivering instruction. I now work for the largest educational publishing company in the world and have insight into schools across the States. The practices and philosophy of teaching embodied by Discovery is unmatched in any US public school: small class size, trained and supported staff and incredible community involvement. Those who know Discovery are fortunate to experience how education should be- about the students.
- LK, Teacher, USA

My first teaching job was at the Discovery School, and I spent three years there.  It was a great starting off point with the small class sizes and the staff took me in as family, which was nice since I was so far from home.  I learned a lot with the hands-on teaching styles, and it has continued to help me improve as a science teacher.
- LS, Science Teacher, USA

Teaching at The Discovery School was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. The small class sizes made it possible to really get to know the students and parents. This allowed me to be a much more effective educator. In addition, the school showcases a wonderfully diverse population by making all events a tremendous learning experience.
